Steve Herseth concentrates his practice in real estate law, including acquisitions and dispositions, financing, leasing and construction, with a focus on representing owners and tenants (including major national retailers) in complex lease transactions.

Mr. Herseth has represented developers and users in a number of complex developments that required consolidating numerous properties and significant governmental approval issues. He has represented developers in development of over thirty properties for lease to a national drugstore corporation. His work on issues surrounding the sale of a division by one national retailer to another is an example of the complex real estate transactions he tackles. Mr. Herseth was called on to resolve various disputes, including issues related to properties that could not be transferred in the manner anticipated by both retailers’ general counsel. In the end, his client received full payment and the other retailer understood the magnitude of obstacles that had been overcome to complete the transaction that had been agreed to.

Mr. Herseth serves on the Board of Directors of Equality Illinois and is a Governing Member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is the former Chair of the Downtown Oak Park Board, which formed the first retailer-owner-government management corporation. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Herseth was a high school American Studies teacher.

Mr. Herseth is AV® Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.*
