Principal
As head of Schwartz Cooper's Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Creditors' Rights practice, Richard Bendix uses his understanding of bankruptcy laws to devise creative solutions to his clients' complex legal and financial problems. Among Mr. Bendix’s major cases was the successful reorganization of 203 N. LaSalle Street Limited Partnership—one of the largest single real estate cases ever filed—where he had the opportunity to argue before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Bendix also played a significant role in the reorganization of UNR Industries, Inc., the first company to file Chapter 11 in respect to mass tort (asbestos) litigation. Mr. Bendix is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and has spoken extensively on single asset real estate bankruptcy and general bankruptcy issues to many organizations, including the Chicago Bar Association, Kellogg Graduate School of Management, John Marshall Law School, the Missouri Bar Association, National Business Institute, University of Texas Law School, the American College of Bankruptcy, and the Uniform Commercial Code Institute. Mr. Bendix is a past President, and a Member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Jewish Vocational Service, and past President of The Standard Club of Chicago.
