Illinois Supreme Court Appoints Schwartz Cooper Attorney Joan Eagle Commissioner of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary CommissionDecember 17, 2007(Chicago) – Schwartz Cooper Chartered, a leading Chicago-based full service law firm, announced today that Joan M. Eagle, a Principal of the firm, was appointed as a Commissioner of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois. Ms. Eagle was appointed to a three-year term, effective January 1, 2008. The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) is made up of seven Court appointed members, four of whom must be attorneys. The ARDC has administrative responsibility for the registration and discipline of Illinois lawyers, including investigating allegations of misconduct by lawyers, and prosecuting cases where a lawyer's misconduct suggests a threat to the public or to the integrity of the legal profession. Ms. Eagle has served on various ARDC panels for nine years. She was a member of the Hearing Board, serving as a judge in lawyer disciplinary cases. She also served as an ARDC Inquiry Board member responsible for determining whether formal disciplinary charges should be filed against lawyers. Ms. Eagle is head of Schwartz Cooper's Labor & Employment practice. She provides counsel to employers on general employment relations matters, as well as defends against employment discrimination claims, wage and hour actions, retaliatory discharge lawsuits, tort and contract actions, civil rights claims, unfair labor practice charges and unemployment compensation claims.
